Brian J. Bagley,
J.D., M.B.A.


The founder and chief counsel of the Bagley Law Firm, LLC, Brian provides legal representation to businesses, families, and individuals.  In addition to the practice of law, Brian currently serves as the Mayor of Longmont, CO.  Brian's other community activities include teaching at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder, as well as a professor for the university's prestigious Presidents Leadership Class, teaching upper-level courses on business, management, and leadership.  Brian himself is a CU alumnus, having earned a Juris Doctor from CU's School of Law and a Master of Business Administration from the Leeds School of Business.

 

Brian began his professional career as a senior analyst and key member of the team that researched and wrote the New York Times Bestseller, Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t.  The best-selling hardback business book of all time, Good to Great has grossed more than $100 million in book sales alone.  As the only research analyst throughout the five-year project for its entirety, Brian performed the in-depth investigations, interviews, and analysis on market-leading companies to understand how they came to dominate their industries.  The research has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Business Week, Harvard Business Review, and Fast Company.

 

Brian is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, and has been licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado since 1999.  His personal accomplishments include earning the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America, speaking and writing fluent Spanish, writing and directing a full-length feature film distributed by Universal Vivendi, and volunteering – along with his wife – as a foster-adopt parent for Boulder County's Department of Housing and Human Services.  His foremost passion is his wife, Ivone, and their four children: Danielle, Jordan, Augie, and Mikey.

Timothy Edstrom, J.D.

 

Tim Edstrom is a senior associate at The Bagley Law Firm.  While his current focus is in criminal defense and family law, he has extensive experience in a wide variety of legal fields that include workers' compensation, immigration, Social Security, civil litigation for personal injury, business disputes, civil rights violations, sexual harassment, and securities regulation.

When looking into Tim's legal background, one will find that Tim has litigated some of the most high-profile civil rights cases in Colorado history, including the contentious and highly-publicized Michael DeHerrera and Juan Vasquez police brutality lawsuits.

Alone or as lead counsel, he has conducted approximately 60 jury trials for cases that range from criminal defense of murder-in-the-first-degree to civil cases with millions of dollars on the line. However, Tim feels just at home when litigating child custody issues or misdemeanor matters before the local municipal magistrate.

A graduate of the University of Denver College of Law, and having graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in political science, Tim has deep roots in Colorado.  For instance, he has lived in Longmont, Colorado for over a quarter-century, where he currently lives with his wife, Christina, and two small children.

Impressively, Tim taught himself Spanish, and now speaks Spanish, fluently.  This linguistic skill set has served his clients well, as he proudly represents clients from a broad range of backgrounds and nationalities.

Trista McElhaney, J.D.


A senior associate of the Bagley Law Firm, Trista is a former managing senior associate of one of Denver's most prestigious and successful law firms.  Her practice area focuses almost exclusively on divorce, child custody, and family law matters, making her highly proficient and effective in her specialized skill set.

Whether it be district court litigation, or appellate court matters, Trista has extensive legal experience in and out of the court room.  She is recognized state-wide for her expertise in the areas of high-asset divorce cases which involve business valuations, trusts, and other complex business issues.

Her awards and recognitions include a "Perfect 10 Avvo Rating," being named "Top 40 Under 40" by the National Trial Lawyers, and receiving the "Top Ten Ranking" from the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys.

 

Prior to her practice of law, she graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder's Law School where she received the following merit-based scholarships: the Minoru Yasui Scholarship, Joel H. Greenstein Scholarship, and Harold Taft King Scholarship.  Her academic success began early at the University of Denver where she graduated with a B.S. in business administration and economics while earning her spot on the Dean's List and receiving the prestigious Merit Scholarship.

Scott T. Melin,
J.D., M.A.

 

A senior managing associate at the Bagley Law Firm, LLC, Scott’s practice focuses on high-value civil matters, where his most recent accomplishments include a $1.58 million and a $1.2 million recovery for his clients. Scott’s cases include personal injury, appeals, civil rights issues, business disputes, and other matters which may require complex litigation. Scott also handles high-conflict family matters, to which he brings years of family law experience.

 

Born and raised on the Colorado Front Range, Scott attended Colorado State University, where he studied philosophy and English. Thereafter, Scott received a merit scholarship to attend the University of Colorado Law School in Boulder, Colorado. During his legal studies, he served as a member – and executive – to the law school’s Public Interest Student Association.

 

Before joining the Bagley Law Firm, LLC, Scott’s passion for social justice took him to New York City where he attended Columbia University, earning a master’s degree in human rights and graduating with a 3.94 GPA. Long before this, however, Scott had been an advocate against domestic violence, having worked with organizations such as the Bringing Justice Home Project, an anti-domestic-violence project within Crossroads Safehouse in Fort Collins, Colorado.

 

Among his non-legal accomplishments, Scott presently serves on Littleton's city council as its Mayor Pro Tem. He has hiked the Colorado Trail, a stunningly beautiful 500-mile stretch of Colorado wilderness. In his spare time, he also enjoys birding, fly fishing, and gardening. Scott and his wife have a daughter and son.   

Tim "T.J." Johnson, J.D.

 

Tim Johnson is a senior associate with the Bagley Law Firm.  Tim currently focuses in both criminal defense as well as family law, including divorce, child custody, parenting orders, and protection orders.  Tim has a extensive expertise with complex litigation and the challenges of digital evidence.

 

Tim served as a senior prosecutor with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office for 21 years. Today, Tim remains a recognized national leader in the areas of domestic violence, sexual assault, cybercrimes, and stalking, and has been asked to consult and provide training to other attorneys throughout the United States. Impressively, Tim has conducted over 200 trials including over 100 felony jury trials.

 

In addition to his expertise in serious person crimes, Tim led the White Collar Crime Unit with the District Attorney's office as well as the Community Protection Division which focused on consumer protection, elder abuse, and elder law issues.

Tim attended college at the University of Colorado where he earned a BA in Political Science and Economics. He then attended the University of Colorado School of Law where he earned the Joel H. Greenstein Award for Excellence in Trial Practice.

 

Tim is dedicated to the local community as well as to the advancement of justice system reforms. He serves as a board member for The Longmont Community Justice Partnership (LCJP) and the Rocky Mountain Victim Law Center (RMvlc).  In these roles,Tim works to promote safety for crime victims, alternatives to the traditional criminal justice system, and promoting restorative justice practices. 

 

Tim and his wife, Nicole, have four boys.  They love the Colorado outdoors and spending time exploring our great state and finding adventures off the beaten path.
